Tiana's Vanity

Learn more about what Tiana’s Vanity means, my mission, and why I began to love doing the art of makeup.

Mission Statement

My goal is to create a welcoming beauty service experience to inspire empowerment, diversity, confidence, and fearlessness within our community. I aim to make sure everyone has the opportunity to feel the best in their own skin and to inspire people to feel confident inside and out. I believe that makeup is an art that is unique for every single person. I want to create something for each person that fits them perfectly.

What does “Tiana’s Vanity” mean?

The word “vanity” has a variety of meanings that can be perceived in different ways. The definition of vanity means “inflated pride or admiration of one's appearance or achievement”. Some synonyms for vanity are self-love and arrogance. I found it interesting that these two synonyms are very different but come from the same concept. The word vanity is cohesive with the way makeup can be perceived as it is a tool that can either be used to find confidence within oneself or a way to cover your insecurities and hide behind it. The way you chose to see yourself and how you utilize makeup is something that only YOU can choose. I believe that makeup is a way to empower yourself, be creative, and give you confidence to be fearless in all aspects of life.

How did I start?

Ever since I was young I have always loved art and being creative. In 2018, I began to watch beauty gurus like James Charles, Nikkie Tutorials, Jeffree Star and more. I would watch them for hours learning their techniques and practicing on myself. Doing makeup for countless hours felt like no time had passed and that's when I knew how much I loved makeup. I loved being able to create art on my face with endless colors and styles, it could never get boring. In 2019, I began a makeup account on Instagram called makeupbytiana (which is now called tianasvanity_) where I would post vibrant and creative looks like Bob Ross paintings on my forehead to dragons on face, or colorful eyeshadow looks. I still wasn’t amazing at doing makeup but what mattered the most was that I loved it and it was something I was so passionate about. My family and friends began to ask me to do their makeup for special events and I loved doing it. I continued to practice and slowly became better and realized this was something I wanted to do for the long run.
